So, ive been planning this for about 2 months, But ive been dealing with setbacks and people who are on BS, move on their own time, or just aint moving at all. One way or another ITS ON, ITS ON, ITS ON(to butcher a JellyRoll line)!!

100% OFFICIAL, Its going to happen. LaDaveon LaD Franchize’s Zodiac Challenge (Cancer Edition). I will be celebrating my 30th Birthday, July 9th at the Onyx Room on Jefferson St (Nashville, TN). Honestly, its my first Birthday Party EVER, in life. So im turning 30 and im going IN.

This will be a Party AND a Show. Im Working on getting Hip-Hop/Rap, R&B, Spoken Word/Poetry, Comedians, DJs, and whatever else I can find! There will be performances the first part of the night, and then the party will kick off with Real DJs spinning hot dance music. 18 and Up, It will be BYOB(21+) and there MAY be food, depending on the amount of people that RSVP in advance. Tickets will be $10 and will also be sold online in advance! LadyPaparazzi will be on hand and have the photobooth set up, so come Camera Ready!!

IF your birthday is around this day and u wanna get in on this, let me know and lets make it happen.

For the performers. If you are interested in performing, then please holla at me. And I will say this up front, This is a Birthday Party, not a show. So, there will likely be a 1 or 2 song maximum. Also, if you are performing, you will get in for $5. Why do u still have to pay? Because there will likely be a bunch of people performing, and I have to pay for the venue, so if I let everyone in free, I cant afford the venue! Consider it your B-Day present to me… thanks in advance. Also, you are helping cover the price of the food, if I get enough RSVPs, and all the other expenses.

And I have to add a list of Special Invites. If your name isn’t on this list, don’t worry. It means either I expect to talk to you about it, think you might already be coming or something. I just wanna make sure I mention these people so they at least know about the event.

Anybody that knows what the “Network” was.
The Real hardcore NBO cats
April Rucker (I know u cant come, but im going to figure something out!)
Flash Flood
B-Cov
Renard Hirsch
Ron Ron
Tam (Can I request u jump out of a cake?? Or can we do that in private, im just saying)
DJ Wick-It and crew.

Franchize’s Suggestions for Artists (and a few other business people). Part 1.

Ive been saying I was going to write this FOREVER, and keep putting it off. But im really going to sit down and write this. Im going to point out some flaws and give u some tips from the prospective of a FAN, Business Person, and someone who has somewhat worked with artists.

I extend an invitation to Latino Saint, Reality, Blitz, and some of the other people who know things to offer their opinion. They can agree, disagree, take away, add what they think.

Artists, what are your goals?? Is your goal to get known, to get a deal, to make money or what exactly??

I Challenge you to really sit down, think about your goals and see if YOU feel like you are on the right track to getting there. And then go to someone that you trust to be real with you (tell you good AND the bad) and discuss it with them. To quote someone, it’s the Music BUSINESS, so you gotta have your music AND especially your BUSINESS right to get anywhere (See Below). If you’re serious about being an artist and making money at it, you have to approach it as your JOB, and do things the right way.

1. Networking

You need to network. You need to get outside of your Circle. While hanging with your friends is cool, and doing shows with all the artists from your clique/hood/group/whatever. If you stay in the same circle and are always around the same people, HOW do you expect to gain more fans, get known, meet IMPORTANT people, reach outside of the city or better yet perform outside of the city??

Just meet people. You never know who u might be standing beside, or talking to, or be in the same room as. You might meet a random person and it’s a DJ, Producer, Artist, Personality, Booker, Club Owner, Management, Label Executive or anything. And you never know what could happen. It could grow into a great working relationship and yall do big things together, or they could put you onto some new business deals or people that really boost your career. Or it could just be a cool person u keep in contact with, and then years down the road, you encounter them again and they are in a totally different position and can offer something that boosts or changes your career/life.

Use people that you don’t know or have never worked with when you do songs, shows, and etc. You might have a track with a particular artist; someone hears it and loves it, and they are looking YOU up and you just made new fans, got a few new shows, or made a new connection. You may have someone new perform at your show; and their fans and people and etc come out and see YOU and love it. Again, you just made some new connections, met some new people and opened up new opportunities. A label, a manager, a booker or anybody could have come out to see that particular artist, but was impressed with you, so now they are interested in working with you. #BAM, by simply working with new people, u just made some moves.

2. Marketing

You need a PLAN. SERIOUSLY. You need to sit down and take the time to put together a marketing plan, press kit and a lot more. Im only going to touch on a few things here, but theres a lot more you need.

a. Online Marketing

As an ARTIST u need to make yourself, and your contact info, easy to find. If a fan or business person hears about you and wants to find your music or contact you, then they need to be able to do so. People will google you, look you up on facebook and things like that. U need to have one of those or BOTH that is under your artist name, so people can find you, and/or you need a website of some type. People want to follow you, friend you, contact you, know when your shows are, maybe even book you and etc. Google your artist name and see what comes up and where u are in the results, its very important to know what people see when they are looking for you and that they are able to find YOU.

Also, you need to make your website, twitter, facebook or etc have the same name and url, if possible. Ideally, if your artists name is J-Spade, I should be able to search J-Spade on Twitter, Facebook, or google and find you. And u preferably want to have a simple common URL, like facebook.com/jspade, twitter.com/jspade, www.jspade.com. Or if you have a name that a lot of people use, come up with something to add to it, so people can still find you. Something like jspade615, jspademusic, or Iamjspade… facebook.com/iamjspade, twitter.com/iamjspade, www.iamjspade.com. This will make it easy for people to remember and locate you. If someone contact you and want to add you on facebook, u can easy give them the url and they can remember it. And if they want your twitter too, “oh it’s the same thing”. It also makes it easy to write, say and market. “Holla at me, yourfavoritesite/iamjspade”. You don’t want to have someone ask you to give out your contact info to a crowd or group of people and u give out 3 very different (and complicated) addresses for your facebook, twitter, and website. Keep it simple!

When people go to these sites, you need to define yourself. On your profile, Say you are an artist on your profile, what kind of music you do, what you sound like, where people can find more info about you. Occasionally post a new track or a link to your music. People on your list that may not know, NEED to know you are an artist. Or they may have heard you once and don’t remember how talented you were. Post up something like, “I have a show coming up next Wednesday, May 18, I will be doing my single “I love facebook”. Take a listen and come and check out the show. You can even learn the words and sing along!”

b. Promo materials

You need promo materials as well. You need several great pictures you can post, so people looking at your website/facebook/etc can see or even save them. And you need them on hand to send when people are putting you on the flyer for an event, promoting you in some way (even keep them in your phone for emergencies). Nobody wants to see camera phone pictures or you at a party holding a plastic cup on flyers, its not professional. Get a photographer to come to your show and take a couple professional pictures of you performing. And then do a mini photoshoot with them. You can get this done cheap, because everyone is a photographer now, but make sure they are quality, there are at least a couple where your face is unobstructed and clear, and above all they represent YOU.

To take a step back, I understand a fitted and/or sunglasses are cool. There is nothing wrong with having pictures like that, if that’s your image. BUT you still need some pictures without them, so people can see you and who you are, and recognize you from the picture. Also be mindful of what clothes you where in your promo pictures, don’t wear something random, wear something that represents you and who u are as an artist, and that u look GOOD in. For females, pictures with your breasts hanging out or a too short dress may be sexy, but realize you may not always be performing in the club. You may have a classy upscale show or you may since the national anthem somewhere or anything. You must have a few different looks/styles, so that u can have a few options of what picture you send to who, when u are being promoted.

c. In person marketing

Here is something that I personally think is a good idea. Have SOMETHING with your contact info PRINTED on it, on you at ALL TIMES. Whether it be business cards, cds, press kit, or just a piece of paper. The reason I say this is, people can hear you say your contact info, but not everyone speaks or hears the same, so they may misunderstand you. People are in clubs, and drinking, smoking, flirting or distracted a ton of different ways. You cant expect people to always remember your contact info or who you are, or hear/remember it correctly, and sure don’t expect them to write it down. Yes, they can put it in their phone, but how often have you put a number in your phone and forgot who it was?? If you give someone a business card, or a cd or something like that… they may look at it the next day, remember who you are, and go look you up immediately. Or they may stuff it in their wallet, a drawer at home, or their car and forget about it. But then 6 months or a year down the road, they find it, look you up and by that small thing, uve kept a fan, reminded a business contact of who u are, or sold a ticket to a show, because they wanna come out and see how much uve improved.

Also, it can be a good idea to keep Music on you. Even if it’s a CD with 2 songs on it. U can sell it for 1 or 2 dollars. Someone may meet you from out of town, buy a CD and take it back across the country with them. And suddenly uve got fan is IOWA because they heard ur CD and thought u were talented. Or you may have a bad show, and someone was there scouting you, but they get a CD to see how good you are, and decide to book you for a show based off THAT. And theres always the long shot, someone gets a CD and their cousin is in the music business. They hear it and think WOW, this person has potential, so they have suddenly got you on their radar. Above all else tho, uve making a little money and getting your music heard. Isnt that your goal??

3. Fans

This is a tough one for me. A lot of artists neglect FANS. Don’t you want people to like you, enjoy your music, come see your shows, BUY your music, talk about you to their friends and family, request you on the radio, vote for you and etc??

Then you need to MAKE fans. Get out and talk to people. After your shows stay around and watch the other acts or just chill, let people approach you and say how much they enjoyed your performance. Tell them to look you up on the internet, add you, follow you, whatever.

I see a lot of people that aren’t using the internet to their advantage. USE your twitter, facebook and etc to let people know you are an artist. As I said before post up things like, “I have a show coming up next Wednesday, may 18, I will be doing my single “I love facebook”. Take a listen and come and check out the show. You can even learn the words and sing along!” If you have 1000 friends on facebook and 10 know you do music, then you are failing! Promote to them, post music, Talk to them, invite them out to shows(both with event invites and post saying it, maybe even hit their wall or inbox), ask then what they think about your music, etc. Get an email list and email your fans when you have shows, when you need votes, when you drop new music and more. People may be interested in you, but if you have to give them the chance to follow you, check you out and interact with you. I know I personally have always liked to see artists post when they have shows, or send out emails, if its an artist I like, I might have gotten out and checked them out. I have seen many people just be friends on facebook/twitter, end up interacting and then it grow into them doing business together or it lead to an opportunity they would have never gotten. So u never know what might happen from simply interacting with a friend/fan.

I have also lost respect for some artist who feel like they shouldn’t have to take the time out to market themselves, and email or post when they have a show, but complain no one is paying attention to them or there is no one at the show. And even complain they aren’t getting the attention they deserve!

Ultimately, if you are going to be a successful artist, u will need fans! Refusing to interact with them, being antisocial, having a huge ego, and etc, is only going to hurt ur career.

SIDENOTE: PLEASE DONT LET YOUR EGO RUIN YOUR CAREER OR BUSINESS. LEARN WHEN TO CHECK IT OR WHEN YOU ARE WRONG. IF ALL ELSE FAILS, ASK SOMEONE U TRUST THEIR OPINION.

4. Sales (Online and in person)

TO BE CONTINUED.

This is only Part 1. There should EVENTUALLY be a part two.

** Im going to make three amendments to this note.**

1. Latino Saint brought up a good point about the money. I understand some people feel like u shouldnt have to pay for anything, and u should get paid for what u do. There are very few businesses where u dont have to pay for SOMETHING to make money. McDonalds has to pay for meat, condiments, advertising. Facebook has pay for the people who f’Up facebook every couple of weeks. BP has to pay for the people who transport the oil. U always gotta pay SOMEBODY if u expect to make more than a little bit of money. The more you invest, the more u can gain! BUT you have to invest wisely.

If you want to be marketed properly, maybe u need to hire someone to market you. If you want hot promo pics, maybe u need to hire a talented photographer. Yes, u can do most of this stuff yourself, but does that mean u should? If you are talented in that area, but all means do your thing. BUT not everyone is. Sometimes u dont want fans to see a crappy Microsoft Paint flyer and think your show is garbage. Or have business people who might work with you, go to your website and it looks like crap and they cant find anything. Sometimes you have to pay someone who knows what they are doing. Again, all the major companies either hire someone to come work for them who does that or pay a company to do it for them.

And have u ever noticed when someone starts a new business, they give away free samples or they are out finding ways to get people into their business? You must do this to get people interested in your product. You dont just open a business, decide you are the best in the city and sit and wait for people to come spend their money. U might not ever sell a thing. U gotta market, give away, network, and do whatever u can to get a buzz going about your business, to even start making money. You have to prove you are good at what you do and make people come to you. Why doesnt this apply to Music? It does, twice over.

2.This will be short and to the point. Direct from Latino Saint himself. LEARN and RESEARCH the business, and/or deal with people who know what they are doing and can teach/help YOU. I completely agree.

He also adds Finally, “KNOW YOUR POSITION, if you’re the artist, find a manager, THAT KNOWS THE BUSINESS, not your friends b/c someone representing you can walk you out of deals w/o you even knowing it”

3.Why write this? Because people hear me say things and think im talking outta my ass. SO i figured i would put it all together and explain WHY i say the things i say, so maybe it would make more sense. DO i know everything, NO! Am I an artist, NO. But does that mean i cant see things you are doing wrong?? Especially as a FAN. Its just some things to THINK about.

Franchize Marketing 101.

Ive been saying I was going to write this FOREVER, and keep putting it off. But im really going to sit down and write this. Im going to point out some flaws and give u some tips from the prospective of a FAN, Business Person, and someone who has somewhat worked with artists.

To quote someone, it’s the Music BUSINESS, so you gotta have your music AND especially your BUSINESS right to get anywhere.

4. Sales

TO BE CONTINUED.

OK, this is completely random. But i gotta show my love for and knowledge of sports and break down Where Lebron and all these other free agents are going.

First, Lebron is going to either New JERSEY or Chicago. NOT New York.

Why not New York? Yea, they have tradition and i hear its a great city, they are pushing hard for him also, but they have a horrible team and a decent organization(if that). They are a long way from a championship team or being a good organization. If Lebron wanted to be apart of a building team/organization then he may as well stay in Cleveland. So Knick are out.

I dont think he stays in Cleveland. They just dont have the pieces and are going in the direction that would match what he could have in Chicago or NJ. IF they get Chris Bosh, then MAYBE he stays, but i think it would be a mistake.

Lebron wont go to Miami, yes the Dream team of Him and Wade would be great, they are friends would be good teammates and etc. But i just think its a good move for Lebron to tie his future and legacy to Wade. People will always say he needed Wade if they win. If they dont then they will always say he should have went somewhere else. Just dont like the scenarios.

Lebron is obsesssed with Jordan, so my guess is his front runner is Chicago, BUT i dont think they would let him wear 23, so if he goes look for a number change. (Tho im sure they would consider making an exception for LBJ.) But i also think that the history and tradition of the Bulls might make them less appealing, he would always be in the Shadow on Jordan and the multiple championships and etc. He would HAVE to win multiple titles for his signing ever be considered a success.

Where i think he will and should end up is New Jersey. He gets the chance to be the face of the Nets, to make his own history and put that franchise on the Map. They have a new Owner, A new Coach (Avery Johnson, who im a fan of) and are moving in a new direction. So Lebron doesnt have to win a title or do anything but SIGN, And he will forever be the King of New Jersey and forever tied to the Organization. So no pressure and its all uphill, i think that would be alot less weight on the Kings Head. I also think the Nets have a better core that would fit Lebron.

Lets break things down…

If Lebron goes to the Nets, they have room for TWO max contracts.

So Sign Lebron, then u offer a bit of a lower contract to Dirk Nowitzki (who opted out of his contract today) and lastly you get a guard/forward maybe David Lee, Joe Johnson, Rudy Gay or maybe even a vet like Ray Allen or Paul Pierce (whoever u can afford). I think u do what it takes to get Dirk because the combination of Dirk and Robin Lopez would be a Twin Towers similar to David Robinson and Tim Duncan and it would be HELL trying to find a team that could guard both of them. I prefer Dirk over Chris Bosh because of Lopez. So this gives you a lineup like:

Devin Harris

Lebron James

David Lee / Joe Johnson (any Guard/Forward that would compliment James and could flip/flop with him)

Dirk Nowitzki

Robin Lopez

I think this is a nice lineup, that you would hate to see and try to guard.

Now, if LBJ goes to Chicago, I think it will hurt Derick Rose and his growth, alot. I dont think James is the teamate/leader that Rose would need, he needs a old school veteran that will help him but let him lead, like maybe a Pierce/Allen TYPE or someone of that nature, similar to how they helped Rondo. But, they could maybe co-exist. If u got Rose and LBJ then u go after Bosh. If u find a way to get him, then u have a Big Three, but im not sure how well they would mesh on the court. And who knows how this Lineup would look, but ill take a shot.

Derick Rose

Lebron James

Luol Deng

Jokim Noah

Chris Bosh (or they could Flip Flop C/F)

But i personally dont like this lineup and i dont know how well it would play out. Its talented, BUT, talent aint everything.

LONG SHOT, LBJ goes to DALLAS. YEP, Mark Cuban is working on it. I dont think it will happen, but i think i might be an interesting team: Lebron, Dirk, Jason Kidd??

** SO, in my opinion, Lebron needs to go to New Jersey. **

—————————————————————————————————————–

Now Dwyane Wade… Hes staying in Miami. Plain and simple. U dont get many better coaches than Pat Riley. Miami is a top organization in a LOVELY city. Why would he leave??

I look for either Chris Bosh or Carlos Boozer to go join D-Wade in Miami. Not Lebron. I think they will also add another slightly major free agent, but im not sure who.

————————————————————–

Bosh will either go to Chicago, Miami or New York. I think Miami is most likely, and Chicago would likely be second. He may as a long shot go to Dallas, IF Dirk doesnt return. I think you will see Bosh playing with Wade or Joe Johnson, probably not Lebron. But they are trying to get Bosh in Cleveland.

Dirk Nowitzk will resign with Dallas, unless he gets an opportunity he cant turn down.

Boozer will go to Miami, if Bosh does. If Boozer doesnt to go Miami, IDK who else wants him, haha. Maybe New York. But i think Boozer wont even get a look until the top 4/5/6 free agents are off the list. Then his phone will start ringing.

Amare Stodumire will either stay with the Suns or go to New York (with former coach Mike D’Antoni). IDK if anybody else wants him either.

Joe Johnson will sign depending on Lebron. New York supposedly wants him to play with Lebron and want to use him to lure Lebron. I think IF Lebron signs with New York, so will Joe. If Lebron signs somewhere else (which he probably will), then Joe will sign with Chicago, well unless Lebron goes there, in which case Joe would prob go to New Jersey or some other place. (I would like to see Bosh and Joe Johnson in Chicago with Rose, call it the Gonna be big Three, 3 guys on the rise.)

POSSIBILITY: Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony in NEW YORK!! Yep, i said it. Melo is having contract issues, and they are thinking about trading him. IF New York doesnt get Lebron or Wade, they will likely get Melo, either Bosh, Amare Stoudemire or Boozer(Boozer is a LAST resort, but they need a big) and maybe Joe Johnson.
